Are You Ready to Wipe the Lens?
Imagine walking through life wearing a pair of fogged glasses.
You can still see. You still function, go to work, love your people, and make dinner, all the things. But everything has a slight blur to it. Old fingerprints, streaks, and scratches affect what you see. And you don't notice because you've worn them for so long that you forgot they were even there.
That's what happens when emotions go unmet and unfelt. They don't disappear. They settle into the body. The body stores what the mind couldn't process. Old stories, old triggers, and old beliefs cloud the lens, and we start reacting from the past instead of responding in the present moment.
The good news is you don't need new eyes. You just need to wipe the lens.
This is one experience of how we learned this:
Our Story: Three Sisters, One Comparison
We are two of triplets.
From the day we were born, the world saw us as “almost identical”. People looked at us and compared us, out loud and all the time. Which one is the smart one? The funny one? The quiet one? Who's the pretty one? Who's the athletic one? Even when it was said with love, we heard it as “more than” or “less than.”
So we learned to compare ourselves too, not just to each other but to our outside world.
We didn't know we were doing it. It just felt normal, like the air we breathed. But underneath, a quiet program was running: Am I as good? Am I more? Am I less?
Where it all began…
That program showed up in our lives in different ways. Sometimes it felt like not enough. Sometimes it looked like people-pleasing: saying yes when we meant no, and shaping ourselves into whatever others needed to notice us or to stand out. Sometimes it meant becoming who the world wanted us to be, individually and together, instead of who we actually were.
When you're always measured against someone who looks exactly like you, it's hard to know where you end, and the comparison begins. We couldn't see our own path clearly because the lens was smudged with everyone else's expectations, and with our own.
First it took becoming aware of the program running the show, then it took beginning to release.
Through breath, movement, writing, and simply feeling what we'd avoided for years, we let the old pattern move through our bodies instead of running our lives from underneath. Layer by layer, the blur began to clear.
And what was revealed? Three women with their own unique path, gifts, and purpose. They had been there all along, just covered up.
When the comparison fell away, something beautiful happened. We no longer had to compete or blend together. We could finally celebrate ourselves and each other. Our differences stopped feeling like a scoreboard and started feeling like a gift.
That's one of the reasons Jill and Jessica created Shine Living Community: to bring our own wisdom, our own journeys, and our own voices together through our work and through our individual and collective families and communities. We didn't find our light by being the same. We found it by being fully ourselves, side by side.
…to where we are now
You Don't Have to Be a Triplet to Know This Feeling
You may not have an identical sister, but you've probably felt it too: The comparison to a sibling, a friend, a coworker, a mom at school, or the version of someone's life you scroll past online. The quiet voice that says she's further ahead, she's doing it better, I should be more like...
Comparison is one of the most human patterns there is. It's learned early, it's reinforced everywhere, and it keeps us from seeing and ultimately expressing our own unique light.
The good news is that anything learned can be released and relearned.
What "Release to Reveal" Means
Release is letting the feeling move through instead of denying or dissociating.
Reveal is what's left when it does: clarity, perspective, and the truest version of you, who was never gone, just covered up.
It's less about doing and more about undoing. You're not fixing yourself. You're clearing what's in the way.
The mind repeats what hasn't been fully felt, heard, or met. So the same patterns, fears, and situations keep returning until we acknowledge them. That's why words alone aren't enough. The body has to feel it. And this takes practice
We must reveal it to heal it.
Why the Body?
Because that's where the feelings process.
Unexpressed emotion is energy that hasn't finished moving. It can show up as tension, fatigue, a tight chest, a knotted stomach, or a low hum of anxiety you've stopped noticing because it's been there so long.
When we use breath, movement, and presence, we give that energy somewhere to go. It cycles through like a wave. The nervous system settles, the body softens, and the fog begins to lift. WE recognize that we are now safe to allow the emotion to move-allowing the energy to unfold
Over time, this changes how you experience your day. You pause before reacting. You see solutions where you once saw walls. You trust yourself more because you are connected to your wisdom and your true nature.
Your Practices This Month
1. Page Purge (5 min)
Grab paper and a pen and write it all out. It doesn't have to be neat, polite, or grammatically correct. Curse if it comes out that way. Let it be honest, messy, and real.
Scan your life for what wants out: body, mind, emotions, money, relationships, work, family.
Try these prompts, or use your own:
I no longer want to…
I feel hurt when…
I still feel guilty about…
I compare myself to ___ when…
When you're done, rip it up, crumple it, and let it go. Destroying the page is part of the release.
2. The Feeling
Close your eyes. Where do you feel it in your body? What's the sensation: heavy, tight, hot, buzzing? Get curious and intimate with it. Then breathe into that spot, as if you're making space around it.
Are you willing to shift?
3. Move Your Body
Emotion is energy in motion, so let it move. Y’all all know how we love to SHAKE IT OUT. So let’s go!
3 minutes minimum: Pick a song and JUST LET GO. Shake your body; let it all jiggle, shake, and bounce. This will:
Help release stuck patterns in the body
Pump your lymphatic system to help release inflammation and bloating
Strengthen your physical body.
1 min: Stillness. Root your feet into the earth and let her compost what you've released. Ask yourself: Do I feel more space? Has my perspective shifted?
It may take a few rounds, or it may happen right away. Be patient and get curious.
A Simple Note for the Messy Days
Release isn't always pretty. Sometimes it's tears or a page full of words you'd never say in public. That's not a setback. It means it's working.
Be patient with yourself. Love yourself through the process as much as you can.
