Voyage Denver: Meet Jill Emich

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jill. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a triplet and currently the co-founder (alongside my two sisters) of Shine Restaurant & Potion Bar and Shine Potions. I have always enjoyed bringing people together and building community. My mission and purpose in life is to continually encourage people (including myself) to explore and dig deeper into their personal beings, to share their gifts and passions and SHINE from the heart. I have owned and run restaurants, bars, event, and music venues for the past 20+ years and am also a dance instructor. My role at Shine as well as teaching, help fulfill that. I believe that feeling good in our bodies is vital to living an inspired life. Getting to feed people and quench their thirst in a health-giving way like we do at Shine inspires me every day. My focus is on Shine Potions, magic, community outreach, continuing to expand my knowledge and offerings of all things food and drink and to be of service to the greater good.

I grew up in a big Italian family (my mom is one of 12 kids) and food was always the centerpiece of our lives. We always connected over meals, shared tears, celebrations, break-ups, and make-ups. It is no surprise that the restaurant & beverage world is what we ended up doing.

Everything we create at SHINE, we do in a way that is conscious, that is sustainable, and that creates an experience to all that participate in our offerings. We source locally, organically and wildly and we use holistic practices like sprouting and fermenting to make sure our guests are not only getting the best ingredients but also that it is assimilated to give the most benefits. I also curate events like dance parties, live music, art shows, etc. to help build community and to invite others to share their own unique gifts.

Shine Potions, our beverage company, are created with powerful adaptogenic herbs as well as energetically curated with gem essences, flower essences, and sound frequencies (yep!) that invite people to tap into the Magic Within. Each has a specific function and intention and at the restaurant, you can drink on their own or we make amazing cocktails with them too. They are also sold in grocery and liquor stores around Colorado and beyond. They are delicious and completely unique. Shine Potions are the first energetic beverage to hit the market.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Easy Path…. , no it has not… First of all, being a triplet and being in business together is a challenge in itself. We have had the highest of highs and lowest of lows together both in business and personally together. We have big blowouts for sure and its definitely not pretty all the time but our love for each other is huge and it is unconditional and so we grow…

Also, we feel a responsibility in sourcing responsibly in our companies. We seek out local farms, fair trade companies, and all our meat is grass finished and our seafood wild and caught sustainably. It isn’t an easy task (and definitely not the cheap way to go) but it is a huge passion of ours to participate in a way that helps mama Earth and our oceans thrive and we just couldn’t do it any other way. We want our guests to know that when they eat (and drink) at Shine or sip on a Shine Potion that they are feeding their bodies well. Your food literally becomes you and it helps determine our brain chemistry and what we put in our bodies and our relationship to our food is one of the most important in our lives.
